Looking For a List Of Foods That Cause Gout?

Those suffering from gout often find that they have periods where the pain is more intense than others are and this might be related to the foods that they are eating. Most people know that foods high in purines are often to blame, but some foods with high protein content can be a problem as well. Both of these tend to raise the levels of uric acid in the body, and that means the painful crystals associated with gout form more readily and easily. Not only should a gout patient worry about what they are supposed to eat, they have to find a list of food that cause gout pain so they can avoid them.

As more and more information is released, it is becoming clearer which foods are bad for gout and which are safe to eat. Some say all seafood is bad, but that statement is currently being reevaluated. It now appears that some seafood will cause problems and should remain on the list of foods that cause gout, but others are actually okay, and because seafood is good for the body, this is very good news. Mussels, for example, are high in purines and should be avoided. The same can be said for scallops, haddock, herring, sardines, smelt, all types of trout, and salmon. Anything else may be okay, but it can be individual to each patient.

Yeast seems to be an issue with gout, and many sufferers avoid some breads. However, it seems that whole grain breads are the ones to avoid the most. Other types of bread can be tried to see what reaction there is, if any, if someone wishes to reintroduce bread back into their diet. Yeast is in all breads though, so it may still be problematic for some people. Yeasts and whole grain breads are considered high to medium purine foods, so be careful and monitor pain if adding back to the diet. Beer contains yeast, so it may need to be avoided as well.

Most don’t like to hear it, but bacon is another food best avoided. Bacon is a protein and moderately high in purines, depending on the cut, and is probably something to avoid.

The heart tissue of any type of animal is very high in purines, and should be avoided. Other types of meat to avoid are other organ meats, turkey, mutton, grouse, veal, pheasant, and goose. Like heart tissue, these are higher in purines and raise levels of uric acid in the system.

Some studies suggest that vegetables should be on a list of foods that cause gout pain, but again this is undergoing careful reconsideration. It was said that avoiding vegetables like spinach, cauliflower, asparagus, and mushrooms was vital to good health for gout patients, but that might not be the case for all. Some have to avoid legumes as well. These include dried items like peas, beans, and even soybeans. You now have room to experiment with all of these rather than instantly ridding your diet of them.

Some sufferers think they will find it incredibly hard to follow along and avoid the list of foods that cause gout pain, but after putting up with the pain for so long, letting go of some of these foods should be pretty easy. With gout and diet it is very much a of elimination and trial and error before figuring out which foods are triggers for pain and which ones can be tolerated.

Some claim it can help with weight loss, encourages toxins to be released from the body, and some say it might even help to fight cancer. Others believe that there is a gout green tea remedy that can help with pain and flare-ups. Those who have gout and would like to try this out should be aware of what they can expect, and they should also be sure they know the correct way to brew the tea so that it has the most positive affects on the body.

Green tea has drunk in China for health and well being for centuries. The Chinese believe it to be very powerful, and use it to help with many ailments that might have otherwise gone untreated. Green tea is considered better than black tea. This is because it is in its natural form. Black tea has gone through oxidation, which causes it to lose some of its powerful healing properties. Not only is green tea better, it tends to be more pure. When buying, get a quality brand, preferably organic, for the best benefits.

If you want to prepare green tea the correct way, you have to remember that this type of tea is more delicate than black, so it must be handled as such. The pot for brewing is important. If possible, you should have what is called a yixing clay pot. If you can’t find one, you may have to go to a store specializing in Chinese or Japanese cooking materials. You should never buy your tea in teabag form. Instead, buy it in its natural, dried form. And, for the best results, you should not use water from your tap. Instead, buy pure, filtered water from the store.

When brewing, take your time to do it right for the best taste and the most benefits to your health. Some of the steps might seem silly, but they are said to be the best way to get the most out of the tea. You have to decide how much you want to make before you start. Boil your water in your new pot, and then pour the water into each of the cups that you want to fill with the green tea. Once you have done this, you should then discard the remaining water in your pot. This is done for a few reasons. The first reason is to lower the temperate of the tea. It should not be made with boiling water, but rather with water that has cooled a bit. Also, this allows the pot and the ceramic cups to be warmed. After this, you should add a teaspoon of tea for every eight ounces of tea you are making into the pot and tip in the water from the cups, and you then allow it to brew for about two minutes.

You should drink your green tea daily. The antioxidants in the tea are said to reduce and even eliminate gout, depending on how bad it is, and even where it is located. It can also trigger more frequent urination, which can help remove excess uric acid that leads to gout. You should give your gout green tea remedy a few weeks to see if it helps.

Delicious Low Purine Foods For Gout Sufferers

Under normal circumstances, the purines you find in many foods are broken down into uric acid, and the body gets rid of it without any problems. However, for someone with gout, getting rid of this uric acid is problematic, and the result is painful crystals forming in the joints – leading to gout pain. When this happens, there are medications that can help with the pain, but one of the best things a person can do it to is to find low purine foods and make them a major part of their diet. This can offer much-needed relief for most.

There are some general directions for a low purine diet, but always listen to your doctor’s advice in addition to this information. A low purine diet is going to contain almost fifty percent carbohydrates each day, and no more than thirty percent of the diet each day should be made up of fats. The rest should be healthy and lower purine protein sources. Drinks that are normally not allowed on many special diets are actually encouraged. These include soda and coffee. The reason being as that they act as directics, helping your body to flush out the excess uric acid. It’s important to drink plenty of water as well to keep your body well hydrated. Alcohol, however, in most forms is not something you should be drinking.

When looking for low purine foods for your diet, you can find a great variety of things you can have that won’t cause any issues with your gout. If you love thick soups, you can have them as long as they are made with low fat milk. Cheese and milk are fine, but again, they should be low in fat. You can also enjoy things like gelatin and a great variety of fruits and fruit juices. Most sweets are just fine, but remember to watch the calories if you are attempting to get your weight down. You can also enjoy things like pasta, and peanut butter is okay for a treat.

When choosing your low purine foods, you can have some medium purine rated foods with them about once a day if it does not bother you. Those would include some meats like beef, pork, and possibly chicken. Some seafood choices are relatively safe as well. You should experiment to find what bothers you and what works out well. As long as you work at limiting the purines, you are going to feel much better each day. You might want to have lobster bisque on occasion, as long as you limit your portions, and don’t have any other medium purine foods for the rest of the day.

You may have a hard time finding new foods to eat at first, but after a while you will get used to reading labels and figuring out what works for you and what does not. Any special diet requires a little thought and work, and the low purine foods diet is no exception. After a while though, reading and deciphering items in the store by reading through the ingredients list will become second nature, and you will become accustomed to knowing how to build your own menu with little thought.
